For your consideration is a pristine, visually striking matched pair of antique Japanese Satsuma earthenware vases, dating to the early 20th century (Late Meiji to Taisho era). Standing at a substantial 13 5/8" tall by 6 5/8" wide, these mantle-sized cabinet pieces feature hand-painted figural scenes depicting traditional Japanese geishas on the front panels and a beautiful, coordinating hand-painted floral pattern on the reverse sides.
The vases showcase exceptional "moriage" execution with raised enamel beadwork, patterns, and stylized double loop handles flanking the fluted rims.
Both pieces are crafted from authentic porous, yellowish Satsuma earthenware clay. The bases are completely unmarked. The unglazed foot rings feature prominent kiln grit and minor firing imperfections fused directly into the clay body during the original firing process—a testament to their historic workshop origin. Excellent shape with no chips, cracks, or enamel loss.
