This is a painting of a French soldier. He seems to be of some higher rank. It is dated August 8, 1881. The writing is in French. Under the date is de Blay. There is a very long history of the de Blay family, but there is also a de Blay in France. It is on board. It is in very good condition with very minor scratches. The board is not cracked and is cradled against warping. It has not been examined out of frame.
